Laptop: A laptop computer uses up to 90% less energy than bigger desktop models.
Window: When it is sunny outside on a cold day, open your window coverings to let the sunshine in to help warm up your house.
Video Game: Did you know that even when you are not playing your video game, it still uses energy if it is plugged in?
Faucet: Leaky faucets waste both water and energy. By installing aerators on your faucet you will help save energy by reducing the amount of water that is heated by your hot water heater.
Shower: Taking cooler, shorter showers saves energy by reducing the amount of water your hot water heater has to warm up.
Fireplace: During the winter, close the chimney flue to your fireplace so that warm air doesn’t escape. In the summer, open your chimney flue so that warm air may exit.
Ceiling Fan: Ceiling fans can reduce the amount of air conditioning that your house needs during the summer. During the winter, ceiling fans can help push hot air downward so you don’t have to use your heater as much.
Door: Close doors to and shut the vents of rooms that are not in use so energy is not used to heat or cool a room that nobody is using.
Dryer: Don’t over dry your clothes and remember to clean the lint screen so that your dryer will use less energy.
Washer: Wash clothes in cold water! About 90% of the energy used in a washing machine goes to heating water.
Oven: Don’t open the oven often when you are cooking. Every time you open the oven door heat escapes and the oven has to use more energy to heat up again. Furnace: In cool weather, if you dress a little warmer you won’t have to turn your heater on as high.
