What is PEAK Plus? PEAK Plus is a research study which will measure the effects of education and price incentives on household energy usage. For the purposes of the study, the PEAK program will be used to represent education.  The families of students at particular schools have been selected at random for participation. PEAK Plus is an opportunity offered by Southern California Edison Company (SCE) and The Energy Coalition to reward families for saving electricity on days when it's in particularly high demand. The reward comes in the form of a potential credit on their electric bills for decreased electricity usage between 2 and 6 pm on certain “PEAK Plus” days. Registration for PEAK Plus ended in August 2007. What is PEAK? PEAK is an educational program of The Energy Coalition, SCE, and Southern California Gas Company, designed to teach students and their families to use energy more wisely in their homes, communities and schools. Students learn the importance of shifting energy usage off of peak-demand times, about renewable energy sources, energy conservation, and cutting-edge energy-efficient technologies. PEAK Plus is a crucial element in a statewide effort to create a more secure energy future for California. The PEAK Program strives to build good energy-saving habits in California’s youth, so there is enough energy for all of us when it is needed. By shifting electricity to off-peak periods, we avoid California’s “electricity traffic jam,” which can cause blackouts. In addition, when you conserve electricity, you contribute to a healthier environment. When less electricity is demanded (especially during peak times), fewer power plants are needed. PEAK Plus may also contribute to our ability to expand programs like PEAK throughout California for many more years.
